"Shoes of the Immigrants" 2006 Video Installation The video has been treated with a visual effect to simulate the usual news reports and documentaries that deal with the social immigrant issue in the USA. Latino immigrants have always work the land in this country, many dude to the lack of opportunity and freedom in their own countries. I chose to poetically represent them with the old shows; the plants indicate the fruit of the immigrants labor and survival as the plants wrap themselves around the shoes bonding the immigrants to this land, and forcing them to star a new life in the new land. Poetically the plants also represents the second and third generations that have grow in the new land which rapt themselves around the old shoes, becoming the product of the hard labor of the immigrant ancestors. The work calls for reflection to those who’s whose origins may be in the old shoe. Their roots are firmly planted thanks to the labor and survival of their ancestors. |
