"Diablos de Yare" 2007 Video Installation Performance An ephemeral work that represents a traditional Venezuelan celebration in a contemporary foreign setting. Only the Mask from the original costume remains somewhat authentic, but through out the performance the celebration assimilates to the new culture. The modification of the traditional costume is done purposely to convey the issues of transculturalization, nomadism, and the loss of a tradition. The work also teaches about the importance of the celebration, the ritual, the sacrifices, and the final feasting. |
